Organized chaos, living with structure and surprise, is the life of the circus. From 1999 to 2005, I had the privilege of sharing that life by traveling with various American and European circuses and sideshows. Allowed to roam freely, I drew and painted performers, workers and animals. The drawings, some of which are posted here in Circus Diary, were complete in themselves and also an inspiration for my paintings. I am grateful for the hospitality of these circuses, their staff and their wonderful performers: Kelly Miller, Carson and Barnes, Big Apple, Zerbini, Roncalli in Germany, Zippo in London, Planet Circus in Ireland, plus Ken Harck's and Coney Island's Sideshow.
