Whatever is current, whatever is interesting and is emotionally relevant eventually appears in my work. A morning’s walk along the East River becomes a hunt for collage. The newspaper, an old book or a friend’s note, all yield textual fragments. Last night’s dream turns into a poem. An exhibit generates new painting ideas.
My work is fueled by color and texture, by emotions and by story. Everything is driven by curiosity and the need to discover what happens when color and form are painted on canvas, when textures and materials are pasted on cardboard, and when a poem unfolds.
Half the time, the piece tells me what it wants; the other half, I’m waiting for meaning to emerge. It’s all the same: searching and creating and in between, absolute joy.
